Sindh Rural Support Organization (SRSO) is one of the largest Rural Support Organizations in Sindh, registered under section 42 of the Companies Act 2017. SRSO is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life of the rural poor by fostering community development, and social mobilization, and providing essential services. Position: Veterinary Officer

Professional Qualification

The ideal candidate must hold a Degree in Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from an accredited university or institute. A minimum CGPA of 3 or above is required to ensure a strong academic foundation.

Experience

Candidates must have a minimum of 02 years of post-qualification working experience in large animal care, community development, and social mobilization. This experience is essential to understand the challenges and requirements of the role.

Duty Station

The position will be based at SRSO District Offices in Khairpur Mir’s and Jacobabad. However, candidates should be willing to be posted in any interior district of Sindh as per program needs. Flexibility and readiness to work in various locations are crucial.

Core Responsibilities

Risk Function Implementation

The Veterinary Officer will assist in the implementation of all aspects of risk functions. This includes the use of processes, tools, and systems to identify, assess, measure, manage, monitor, and report risks.

Development of Risk Policies

Assisting in developing risk policies and procedures, financial risk limits, and approval authorities is part of the job. This ensures that the organization operates within a structured and safe framework.

Management of Veterinary Mobile Team

The officer is responsible to the Manager for the proper functioning of the veterinary mobile team, CMVC (Community Mobile Veterinary Clinic). This includes:

  • Administering treatment as per Brooke’s standard operating procedures and minimum standards of equine welfare.
  • Managing support staff, including Social Organizers (SO), Brooke Associates, mentors, monitoring farriers, and drivers as per SOPs.
  • Ensuring the commencement of Brooke SRSO programme activities according to laid down timings.

Documentation and Reporting

Ensuring that emergency treatment and other community project-related registers, reports, and documents are maintained and entries recorded as per instructions is vital. This ensures transparency and accountability.

Education and Awareness

Educating owners, users, and handlers regarding the prevention of diseases and good practices in animal husbandry is an essential part of the role. The officer will conduct awareness-raising meetings and sessions for primary stakeholders in target communities and camps.

Case Referral

In cases of serious nature, the officer should refer to trained and linked Animal Health Practitioners (AHPs) after providing pain relief if trained AHPs are not available.

Community Project Implementation

The officer will plan and implement community projects in light of Project Cycle Management (PCM) with the participation of the community and relevant project staff. Working in integration with equine owners’ concern projects is also a key responsibility.

Fundraising and Communications

Providing timely input such as case studies, photographs, statistics, etc., for fundraising and communications is necessary. This ensures that the organization can showcase its work and secure the necessary funds to continue its operations.

Work Plan and Budget Preparation

The officer will prepare a yearly work plan along with a budget under the guidance of the District Manager/Regional Manager (DM/RM) SRSO and Program Manager/Regional Manager (PM/RM) Brooke.

Security and Safety Procedures

Familiarity with security instructions and application of safety procedures in various situations and circumstances, especially while on the move and/or working in community areas, is crucial. This ensures the safety of the officer and the team.

Safeguarding Policy

Understanding and adopting the safeguarding policy in its true spirit is required. The officer must ensure that all activities are conducted ethically and in a manner that protects the vulnerable.

Additional Tasks

The officer must be ready to undertake any other tasks assigned by the supervisor. Flexibility and a willingness to contribute to various aspects of the organization’s work are important.
